Suggested licence-free routes from Katelios
Route suggestions depend on wind/sea conditions. Licence-free range: up to Koutsoupia (north) and Dias islet (west), within 6 nautical miles of the nearest shoreline.
West route up to Dias islet
East route up to Koutsoupia beach
Which route should I choose today (West vs East/North)?
If NW (Maistros) , N (Tramountana) or NE (Gregos) is forecast around 3–4+ Bft, the West/South route is usually more protected. If W (Pounentes/Ponente), SW (Garbis), or S (Ostria) dominates, this East/North route is usually the calmer, more comfortable option.
If you’re unsure: message us on WhatsApp before you set off and we’ll tell you which side is best for your exact day so you can plan ahead.

The skipper must be 18+ years old and present a valid ID or passport.
You’ll need to present your passport, or a national ID if you’re an EU citizen.
If you’re renting a boat that requires a licence, you must also present a valid motorboat licence at check-in.
Daily rental time is from 08:00 to 16:30 at the latest (return by 16:30).
Departure and return are from Kato Katelios Harbour, Kefalonia.
It’s straightforward:
-
You contact us with your preferred date (and whether you need a licence-free boat or a boat that requires a licence). We confirm availability and reserve the boat.
-
We schedule your meeting a bit earlier than your planned departure time. At the port, we do a 15–20 minute briefing covering boat operation, today’s weather, safety rules, and the suggested routes and spots.
-
You sign the rental contract and present your ID/passport (EU citizens can use national ID). If applicable, you also present your motorboat licence. You depart with a full fuel tank.
-
You return by 16:30 at the latest. We refuel the boat and you only pay for the fuel you used, charged at the same per-liter price as the fuel station.
Licence-free boats: you can go up to Koutsoupia Beach in the north and up to Dias Islet on the west, but you must remain within 6 nautical miles of the nearest shoreline at all times.
Boats that require a licence: there’s no specific range limit, as long as you return to Katelios Harbour by 16:30.
We’ll always advise the best route based on wind and sea conditions on the day.
Every boat is equipped with the required safety equipment and is checked daily by us, with annual inspections by the port authorities. Boats also have an auxiliary (helper) engine for added safety.
You also get local guidance and route tips during the pre-departure briefing
The boat leaves with a full tank. On return, fuel is charged only for what you used, at the current market price. Consumption depends on load (people/weight), sea conditions, RPM/speed, and distance.
Safety comes first. If we judge that weather conditions are not suitable, we may cancel the trip and reschedule for another day.
Yes. Our boats are covered with third-party liability (αστική ευθύνη), which generally covers damage/injury to third parties and may include sea pollution liability, as required by Greek regulations.
This does not replace your responsibility for damage to the boat, loss of equipment, or misuse. We can explain what applies to your specific boat before departure.
If the boat is damaged during your rental, you are responsible for the repair/replacement cost (depending on what happened).
You must report any damage or breakage immediately—even if it seems minor—for your safety and for the safety of the next renters, so we can inspect and fix the boat properly.
If you need help, call us immediately—support is available during your rental.
Our boats are GPS tracked for safety, so we can locate you quickly if you have a mechanical issue, changing weather, or you need guidance. We actively keep watch and, if needed, we can assist and escort you back or arrange a safe return depending on the situation.
Please return by 16:30 at the latest. If you think you’ll be delayed, call us as soon as possible. Late returns can affect the safety briefing/inspection schedule and may incur additional charges (depending on the delay and operational impact).
Kefalonia’s south–south-east coast (Katelios area) is generally a protected zone, but conditions can change quickly—especially around midday with typical Ionian winds (Maistros – from the northwest). We adjust route advice daily based on the real conditions and your experience level.
